Who We Are
Gestalten specializes in developing content for aficionados of cutting-edge visual culture worldwide. For us, visual culture is the output resulting from the interrelationship of design, art, architecture, photography, and other visual disciplines with each other as well as other areas such as popular culture and music. In drawing from a variety of influences and combining them in ways not yet seen before, this work is pushing contemporary creative expression to new frontiers.
Always working directly with talented contemporary designers and artists, we bring a deep understanding of visual culture on a global level to whatever we do and remain firmly committed to presenting visual trends with timeless substance. With approximately 30 staff members, the company has offices in Berlin, London, New York, and Tokyo.
At Gestalten, we have always strived to go beyond publishing our content in books and have developed workshops, exhibitions, videos, and, most recently, stores where this content can be experienced in new ways. Our first shop location, Gestalten Space, opened its doors in the Mitte district of Berlin in April 2011. We have now opened a second flagship store in our home city called Gestalten Pavilion which is located on the roof terrace of Bikini Berlin and features an integrated café. At both locations, we are thrilled to not only present a comprehensive collection of our books, but also a striking selection of handpicked products, many of which have been created by the designers and artists that we have presented through our publications. The Space and Pavilion also serve as a platform for exchanging ideas and further enriching and fostering emerging creative processes through special events.
Additional Gestalten shopping locations can be found at Rough Trade in New York City and at a kiosk in Berlin's 25hours Hotel.
Since 2003, Gestalten offers a versatile selection of cutting-edge fonts that have been handpicked by our graphic designers and editors for our independent foundry. Gestalten Fonts now features over 120 contemporary typefaces that range in style from refined, elegant, and minimal text fonts to more experimental display, ornamental, script, blackletter, monospaced, stencil, and typewriter fonts.www.gestaltenfonts.com
Since 2007, Gestalten produces biweekly films on visual innovators and leaders who dare to change today's creative landscape with a bold vision. The portraits of these vanguards, rogues, legends, performers, and players can be seen on www.gestalten.tv.www.gestalten.tv

Gentlemen, Start Your Engines! featured in Octane's July issue. "Verführerisch. Denn die Auswahl gleicht nicht so sehr einem Geschichtsbuch als vielmehr einer Kunstausstellung, sie soll zum Nachdenken anregen, auch Gefühle aufwühlen."
Let's Go Out Again recommended on the German website of Harper's Bazaar. “Haben Sie auch schon mal einen Flug gebucht, nur um dieses eine Restaurant auszuchecken, von dem immer alle reden? Kennen wir. Und deshalb müssen wir Sie warnen: Wenn Sie auch nur einen Blick in unser neues Lieblingsbuch Let’s Go Out Again werfen, werden Sie zig Gründe haben, in den nächsten Flieger zu steigen.”
A Poor Collector's Guide featured on Xamou Art. "Erling Kagge spills the beans...on that weird and wonderful art of collecting art.
Biiiiitte!", muss man allerdings rechnen".
