Book Proposals

If you have a brilliant idea for a book that you think would be a great addition to the Gestalten publishing program, and would like to submit a project for consideration, please send us your proposal.

What we need from you is the following. Make up your minds about what it is that makes your idea unique. Send us a brief description with synopsis, content structure, a list of contributors, ideas if you have any about the format, and most importantly, a selection of images to best understand the visual quality of the project along with some background information about yourself to editors@gestalten.com.

We will then review and discuss the project in one of our editors meetings. Please bear in mind that answering might take some time.

One last thing, we love all things print but please do not send book proposals in the post. Please send your proposal as PDF to the email above.

Social Media Manager (Part-Time)

We are currently seeking an experienced Social Media Manager who will manage and curate our owned media channels and content-marketing output, and oversee all of our activities in the digital sphere.

Experience/Skills

  • Work experience in digital publishing, social media, content marketing, or journalism
  • Understanding of storytelling/digital editorial direction
  • Keen writer, and researcher
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with CMS such as Drupal, tools such as Hootsuite and Mailchimp, and HTML/CSS
  • Native English speaker, German useful

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring, curating, and maintaining owned media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vimeo, Pinterest, and Gestalten News.
  • Text creation, preparation and Mail-Out of our newsletters
  • Engaging and interacting with Gestalten’s audience and followers
  • Copywriting and editing
  • Ad Hoc assignments including translation, proofreading, and content production

Public Relations Manager, Full-Time

Founded in Berlin in 1995, Gestalten is best known for its more than 600 books about contemporary creative culture, the majority of which are conceived in house. They document and anticipate vital movements in design, lifestyle, illustration, architecture, fashion, photography, travel, and art. Providing both inspiration and practical value, they explore new creative fields in ways not yet seen before..

We are looking for a Public Relations Manager who will be responsible for defining and implementing Public Relations plans, in line with Gestalten’s brand, to support our business goals.



Using his or her deep strategic knowledge and established contacts, the Public Relations Manager will initiate, develop and nurture strong relationships with media and work on the day-to-day planning and execution of PR and Communications projects to drive brand awareness and coverage. This person should ideally also have their finger on the pulse of design, consumer trends, lifestyle and ecommerce. He or she will support brand awareness nationally and internationally and develop strategic initiatives and culturally aligned partnerships to foster an understanding of Gestalten’s extensive publishing program, brand philosophy, and distinct approach to its thriving retail business.



The Public Relations Manager will secure key placements in press, including both print and online publications focusing on design, lifestyle, fashion and culture on a national, regional, and local level, in conjunction with our in-house PR team and our international offices and agencies.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop communications strategy and programs and manage media relations, public relations and corporate communication endeavors
  • Direct the production and approval of press releases, photography and other PR tools necessary to communicate image and product
  • Drive PR innovation through digital media, bloggers and influencers
  • Ensure a consistent and clear message in line with company mission and philosophies throughout relevant communication channels

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Approximately 5-years of PR experience, agency or in-house, preferably in a creative, consumer or luxury industry
  • Passion for design. Specific design industry experience is a strong positive
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills in both German and English
  • Self-starter with excellent project management skills and communications ideas 
  • Strategic thinker with a result-focused approach
  • Strong relationships with consumer and design press; detailed knowledge of emerging media and design trends are a plus
  • Strong track record in securing press results and feature story coverage
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks and changing priorities
  • Curiosity, thirst for learning & digitally savvy; must be an energetic team player who is willing to do what it takes to get the job done

Dabei nutzt der/die PR-Manager/in seine/ihre Erfahrungen, strategische Kompetenz und bestehenden Kontakte, um stabile Medien-Partnerschaften aufzubauen und die Kommunikationsziele des Unternehmens auf einer täglichen Basis zu verfolgen, zugunsten einer gesteigerten Markenwahrnehmung und Medienresonanz.
