Blackboard entry by MAGMA Brand Design

A Creative Pool project by MAGMA Brand Design (Germany)

The 21st edition of the Slanted Magazine is dedicated to the generation of young Cuban artists and designers, focusing on Cuban poster art. Many of the works have never been shown outside of Cuba.

Beyond cigars, American old timer cars and Che Guevara souvenirs, Cuba has a strong tradition of graphic design. From the fifties until the embargo the county has been a laboratory for new ideas and design experiments. Nowadays the contrast is striking: Cuba barely has no publicity billboards, packaging, flyers, stickers, brands, etc. Besides government propaganda posters and giants all odds, the spirit of creativity remains still colorfully alive. Since the nineties a new generation of graphic designers has emerged and holds on tight to the course of history. They are unfortunately unknown and strive to survive in a complicated economic and political situation without any means to be recognized by the rest of the world.
