Gestalten cordially invites you to the launch of Barley & Hops: The Craft Beer Book (and Das Craft-Bier Buch in German).

Barley & Hops offers beer connoisseurs a behind-the-kettle look at their favourite beverage—from its historical origins an regional distinctions to current developments. Celebrating the rekindling passion for the golden goodness, small enterprises worldwide are combining fresh ideas with traditional methods to create outstanding craft beers.

Join us for a celebratory drink craft beer in the company of select master brewers as well as editors Sylvia Kopp, Sven Ehmann, and Robert Klanten. We will be offering some of the best craft beers featured in the book. Among them are brews from Heidenpeters (Berlin), Private Landbrauerei Schönram (Bavaria), Brewers & Union (South Africa), Weisses Bräuhaus G. Schneider & Sohn (Bavaria), and more!

Now is the time to rediscover beer. While brewing dates back a few thousand years, today’s beer is reaching its full potential through innovative approaches and the craft beer movement. A young generation of brewers around the globe is experimenting with ingredients and reinterpreting staple as well as almost forgotten beer styles. These beer pioneers create new, often surprising tastes and present them in their own bars, as well as at workshops and festivals. Like wine and coffee before it, beer is increasingly recognized as a specialty that people want to understand, explore, and enjoy. Beer selections now accompany multiple course menus, inspire sophisticated chefs, and lead to new taste experiences. The global craft beer scene is curious, resourceful, and enthusiastic.

Sylvia Kopp is Germany’s most famous beer sommelier and a leading international expert on beer in general and craft beer in particular. In Barley and Hops, she tells the story of beer’s comeback, profiles the most interesting artisan brewers, and shares her knowledge of the growing global craft beer scene. Kopp introduces almost 40 different beer styles, explaining how to best enjoy them and with what kind of food. From the origins of brewing to unique recipes for your craft beer tasting at home, this book offers a comprehensive introduction for craft beer connoisseurs and anybody with a thirst for more insight into the culture of beer.
