Olaf Hajek will be in attendance.

To celebrate the launch of Olaf Hajek’s second monograph Black Antoinette, Gestalten Space is proud to present a solo show by this internationally sought-after illustrative artist.

Black Antoinette is a collection of Olaf Hajek’s most recent work that was created over the last three years, a striking selection of personal artwork, editorial contracts, and commercial portraits that showcase a remarkable style that has become more free and painterly during this time. His colorful illustrations and textured paintings are infused with a folkloristic naivety and freshness. Hajek masterfully melds influences from West African and Latin American art to create surreal juxtapositions of fairy tale fantasies and disordered realities. His magical realism enriches the perspective of anyone viewing his work.

Because he is interested in the haptical effect of brushes, paints, and structures, Olaf Hajek does not create his illustrative art on the computer. Rather, he works with acrylic colors on paper, wood, or gray board. He only scans his images to make them available to his clients.

This exhibit at Gestalten Space offers the perfect opportunity to see Olaf Hajek’s original work. The show includes a broad range of his illustration as well as select artworks. Olaf Hajek has also produced key images from Black Antoinette as signed and limited prints exclusively for Gestalten. In addition to these prints, a limited number of signed copies of the book will be available for purchase at the show.
