We're living at our limit. Over the last hundred years, our society has gotten used to extravagant consumption and heedless waste disposal. The design, advertising, and marketing industries have contributed to this alarming trend. Now is the time for designers as well as advertising and communications professionals to use their particular talents to change behavior and values in favor of sustainability. Not only does a stronger fundamental awareness of the topic need to be created, but also meaningful, easy to understand, feasible, and worthwhile opportunities. It is only in this way that the all too familiar discrepancy between knowing and taking action can be overcome.
To celebrate our recent book release Cause and Effect: Visualizing Sustainability and in cooperation with futurestrategy and the International Design Center's Sustainable Design Forum, Gestalten invites you to a panel discussion on this topic on November 15.
Cause and Effect co-editor Stephan Bohle, the IDC's Cornelia Horsch, and the German Consumer Center's Dr. Hyewon Seo will explore the challenges and potential for how design can help achieve a sustainable future. Sven Ehmann, Gestalten's creative director, will moderate.
