Katrin Olina

In the Nature of Things
Posted by Gestalten—10/2009

When Icelandic artist Katrin Olina talks about complex dual concepts - science and creativity, for instance, or Nature's Janus face - she does so with a lightness and ease that never denies the darkness but rather celebrates it. The same can be said of the cosmos behind her wholly unique visual language. Olina, who began her career as a product designer, anchors future-proof perfect ideas with strong artistic and spiritual roots, and the results are masterful: painstakingly liquid-like illustrations, ceramics, powerful art posters, holistic interior and fashion designs and animated film. Fresh off a launch with us for a limited series of illustrations for Gestalten's [::http://news.gestalten.com/arteditions/archive/artist?artistid=ceafb21a239418a601242427938900a1 Art Editions], the artist chatted with us in -- where else?-- a landscape befitting of her aesthetic vision, Berlin's "Gardens of the World."
