With the proliferation of smartphones, just about everyone is walking around with a video camera in their pocket. The result is a whole mess of amateur videos on the net shot in the improper vertical format, much to the nuisance of image specialists. Thoughout moving image history the general format has been of horizontal proportion. Now the vertical video phenomenon is rapidly breaking with this tradition and causing a vibrant discussion both online and off. 

Aram Bartholl will bring these aberrations to the big screen for a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek curated showcasing of YouTube's finest vertical videos. Gestalten published the German media artist’s first monograph The Speed Book last year.
