Bird Postage Stamps

Paper-Based Illustrations from Diana Beltrán Herrera
Posted by Gestalten—07/2017

The lush biodiversity of our planet is under attack, with sea levels rising quickly and rapid deforestation threatening the lives of countless species around the world. What is an artist to do? For Colombian illustrator Diana Beltrán Herrera, the answer was to research the stunning birds indigenous to countries around the world and documenting them in her paper sculptures. Staged as postage stamps, the series of illustrations trace animals from the Eurasian Blue Tit from Portugal to the Singaporean Sterna and the Trogon Viridis of Colombia. The project was recently exhibited in Jakarta as Herrera’s first solo exhibition.
