EIGEN + ART showcases Nicolai's multi-media installation crt mgn.
Inspired by his own performance from 2007 on the occasion of honouring Nam June Paik, Carsten Nicolai now varied crt mgn as an installation. The title goes back to its two major components: a cathode ray tube, crt, and a magnet, mgn. Their interaction resulting in a distorted and unsteady image on a TV screen is furthermore dependent on a pendulum holding the magnet and putting it in an unpredictable movement.
Gestalten has continued to publish the works of Carsten Nicolai, documenting the artist's interest in visual compositions and grid systems. Besides a lexicon on visual patterns, an exploration of the moiré effect, and cyclo. id, a volume on the visualization of sound, a recent book entitled syn chron has just been released last month.
