Exquisite Corpse Show

Exhibition in Belgrade
Posted by Gestalten—12/2012

Last chance to see the show curated by the Lorem Ipsum studio, featuring works by 13 illustrators and studios from Europe, USA and Serbia. The Belgrade public will be presented with the works of some of the finest design studios and illustrators on the international scene for the first time. Exquisite Corpse will be on display at KC Grad until December 7th.

The title of the exhibition refers to the surrealist technique utilized to craft a collective collage of words or images. This game of sorts is played by several people, each of whom would write/draw a phrase/image on a sheet of paper, fold the paper to conceal part of it, and pass it on to the next player for their contribution. The end result is a sequence of loosely connected words/images, a surprising mishmash of individual visions forming a composition verging on the bizarre. The idea was to take this technique and employ it in the context of contemporary illustration. The curators invited 13 artist to make their contributions folowing the rules of the technique. Their individual outputs came to make up a 13-meter long, 2-meter high wall graphic.

The exhibition includes contributions by Hort (Germany), Non-Format (USA/Norway), and Grandpeople (Norway) amongts many others. More work by these studios can ben seen in Los Logos 6 and Pretty Ugly.
