Magazine & Art Book Festival in Rome

In partnership with Rome’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MACRO) and Casa delle Letterature, the Istituto Europeo di Design presents the 3rd edition of Belvedere, a four-day showcase of the best visual magazines and art books in contemporary visual culture.

The third edition of BELVEDERE will be held in Rome from December 12 to 16. Focusing on creative publishing, the event explores the latest trends in visual magazines and art books.
The festival is organized by the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, un- der the artistic direction of Luigi Vernieri, Director of IED Visual Communica- tion. In line with the innovative research themes of the Institute, the event presents the best international visual publications in partnership with MA- CRO - Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Roma and Casa delle Letterature.
The event will be a showcase of the best contemporary visual magazines and art books, from graphic design to photography, urban art and advertising. The most interesting novelty in this new edition of BELVEDERE is that, for the very first time, commercial visual magazines enter a contemporary art museum not as a comple- mentary part of the setting, but as the objects of an exhibition, valuable works of art of great aesthetic significance. In today’s culture where contemporary art is increasingly intertwined with multiple visual codes, from urban art to illustration and advertising, MACRO offers an innovative and perfect setting for magazines able to turn provocative visual contents, highly iconic materials and iconographic research into a form of art.

Focusing on creative publishing, the event explores the latest trends in visual magazines and art books. The festival is organized by the Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, under the artistic direction of Luigi Vernieri, Director of IED Visual Communication, will showcase the best contemporary visual magazines and art books, from graphic design to photography, urban art and advertising. The most interesting novelty is the premier inclusion of commercial visual magazines in a contemporary art museum. And not as a complementary part of the setting, but as the objects of an exhibition, there valuable works of art and of great aesthetic significance. Gestalten is also participating with some of our latest graphic design titles.
