Ornotographie by Xavi Bou

The Spanish Photographer Makes Modern-Day Chronophotographs in the Style of Muybridge
Posted by Gestalten—08/2016

In his composite photographs, Spanish artist Xavi Bou captures birds in flight as if they were painted across the sky with wavering brushstrokes. While some of the images show sine waves of wings smoothly gliding up and down, others show groups of birds circling in blurred twisters. Most poignant, however, is how Ornotographie offers a nuanced view of time: as the images document a fleeting movement lasting a few seconds at most, each composite puts forward a pressing sense of motion as the birds whirl, dart, and glide into the sunset.

Photographers, designers, and artists around the world are using new photographic techniques to convey, display, and represent information and processes. Discover more projects like Xavi Bou’s Ornotographie in our book PhotoViz.
