Textile installation for Sculpture by the Sea Bondi, Sydney Australia (Nov 2-20th 2011), featuring some 115 hand-sewn sea-creatures migrating up the rocks, through a valley and up to an apartment block, where they swarm up the side. "The Yearning" references want, desire to be elsewhere, the communal want of a species who collectively migrate to a new place. These creatures are non-specific in order to facilitate dialogue with the audience- who create narratives and speculate about their origin. Textile sculpture provides a bridge between the domestic and high art, between the comforting and the un-comfort-able.
Margarita Sampson's work has been included in 7 SxSea Festivals, and has been exhibited in Australia, USA & the Pacific.
