ABOUT THE BOOK
You’ve said “Yes!” and you’ve set the date ... now what? There have never been more ways to tie the knot. But before you say “I do,” there are countless decisions to make: the venue, the invitations, the decorations, what to wear, and what to serve. Feeling daunted? That’s only natural. But planning a wedding together can be really fun, we promise! What a Wedding! is a planning guide full of inspiring visuals and stories, with plenty of hands-on advice from designers and event experts—not to mention inspiring ideas from real-life couples who’ve turned their special day into a truly unique experience.
Lots of couples are throwing off the shackles of convention, striking out on their own path, and—when they decide to get married—doing it their way. Lovebirds from the farthest corners of the Earth have come up with their very own vision of a dream wedding. Many of the couples featured in this book mixed traditions from two different continents or cultures. And they continue to be an inspiration long after their big day, as they were true to themselves and made their wedding their very own. From a barefeet beach ceremony in Portugal, an intimate wedding on the stoop of a historic brownstone in Brooklyn, to a riot of colors in the Californian desert with Palms and Piñatas, and a stylish elopement in Copenhagen’s Louisiana Modern Art Museum—What a Wedding! gives readers gorgeous ideas from 23 joyous, offbeat, and inspiring weddings from all over the world and introduces couples who have made their ideas for the ceremony, venue, and party a reality—and a roaring success. Some of these weddings couldn’t be more different, but what unites them is the love that the couples share. These brides and grooms have turned down a one-size-fits-all concept in favor of personality, and they have really made the traditions their own.
Old traditions meet new ideas: intercultural and LGBTQ+ weddings are increasingly widespread and unconventional ceremonies are taking place everywhere—from a seasonal menu with local produce to natural decorations using dried flowers or succulents, and inspirations for vintage dresses that can be as colorful as the rest of the day, this title explores the changing nature of weddings. Regardless of the party and budget size – from a DIY-garden party with tents and hammocks to a grand circus soirée What a Wedding! presents a dazzling array of fabulous ideas and is intended to get lovebirds thinking creatively about their own personal vision for the wedding day.
