Book Proposals

If you have a brilliant idea for a book that you think would be a great addition to the Gestalten publishing program, and would like to submit a project for consideration, please send us your proposal.

What we need from you is the following. Make up your minds about what it is that makes your idea unique. Send us a brief description with synopsis, content structure, a list of contributors, ideas if you have any about the format, and most importantly, a selection of images to best understand the visual quality of the project along with some background information about yourself to editors@gestalten.com.

We will then review and discuss the project in one of our editors meetings. Please bear in mind that answering might take some time.

One last thing, we love all things print but please do not send book proposals in the post. Please send your proposal as PDF to the email above.

Copy Writer (German & English), Full time

Your profile:

  • Degree in communication studies, journalism, linguistic studies or equal work experience
  • Several years of experience as a copy writer and managing copy-writers, copy-editors and proofreaders and/or similar position in a relevant area

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching and writing clear, concise and original copy for our non-fiction illustrated books and children’s titles, this can include profiles and project texts, and project texts, features, headlines, captions, and glossaries
  • Copy writing and editing text for sales material, like catalogue and back cover texts
  • Proofreading copy to check spelling and grammar
  • Acquisition and pooling of freelancers (copy writers, translators, copy editors and proofreaders)
  • Briefing of writers and copy editors in close collaboration with our editors
  • Assessing text quality of texts by external copy writers, translators, copy editors and proofreaders, giving feedback and ensuring a consistent quality in line with our in-house style guide
  • Working on several projects at once, sometimes under pressure and often to tight deadlines

Communications Manager, Full time

Providing both inspiration and practical value, they explore new creative fields in ways not yet seen before.

We are currently looking for a Communications Manager who will be responsible for developing and nurturing strong relationships with international media and work on the day-to-day planning and execution of communication projects. Together with Communications team you will secure key placements in press, including both print and online publications focusing on design, lifestyle, fashion and culture.

Project Manager (Full-Time)

They document and anticipate vital movements in design, lifestyle, illustration, architecture, fashion, photography, travel, and art. Providing both inspiration and practical value, they explore new creative fields in ways not yet seen before.

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Manager who will be responsible for managing a number of different print projects parallelly with responsibility for the entire project lifecycle, from conception to the finished product.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing several large and complex illustrated book projects simultaneously through every stage of the production process on your on responsibility
  • Ensuring all projects are produced on schedule, to our high quality standards, and within controlled budgets
  • Managing various stakeholder relationships, i.e. working closely with the Publisher and in-house Editorial, Design, Production, and Sales and Marketing departments as well as briefing and managing freelance staff, writers, translators etc.
  • Sourcing and acquisition of materials (images and text information)

Your profile:

  • You will ideally come from a publishing background and have minimum 5 years of experience as a project manager
  • You have a strong strategic and economic understanding as well as assertiveness and goal orientation
  • You have excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a high pressured environment
  • You have superb communication skills in spoken and written English, as well as in German and excellent negotiation skills
  • You are a strong team player and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • You have a keen eye for detail and a willingness to perform a variety of routine tasks thoroughly
  • You have excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Excel
  • Knowledge of copyright law and license contracts is an advantage

Senior Communications Manager (Full-Time)

We are looking for a Senior Communications Manager who will be responsible for positioning the Gestalten’s communication across all channels.

You develop and nurture strong relationships with media and work on the day-to-day planning and execution of Communication projects. You will secure key placements in press, including both print and online publications focusing on design, lifestyle, fashion and culture.

You have a deep understanding for our industry and target group and are the key person to spread the word about our activities nationally and internationally. Together with Sales & Marketing you will be responsible for defining and implementing a 360 degree communication strategy in order to drive traffic, conversion, and brand image.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Developing an effective internal and external communication strategy across all channels
  • Leading the in-house communication teams and managing the work with agencies/external partners
  • Drive PR innovation through digital media, bloggers and influencers
  • Ensure a consistent and clear message in line with company mission and philosophies throughout relevant communication channels
  • Direct the production and approval of press releases, photography and other PR tools necessary to communicate image and product
  • Track and evaluate the outcome of Communication activities together with Sales & Marketing in order to generate learnings for future activities

Your qualifications:

  • University Degree in Media & Communications or similar
  • At least 5-7 years and a minimum of 2 years of experience in a leadership position in PR, marketing or communication with a strong track record
