Our Champions League obsession continues. On this piece for New York Times Goal, we take a deep look at the the history of Champions League final matches – all 55 of them played since the 1955-56 season, when the tournament was known as the European Cup. We focused on how the top football nations have performed over time. The timeline of finals appearances provides some insight into the ebbs and flows of football superiority. We've also highlighted the performance of Spanish and English clubs in anticipation of the 2011 final between FC Barcelona and Manchester United.
