A wooden
gate, resembling the entrance to a fairy-tale palace, currently greets visitors
to the Frankfurt Goethe-House. For
several weeks now, a dark blue, shadowy forest has been growing up behind it—secretly
and mysteriously. There are faint sounds of
water, the cry of an owl.
We now find ourselves within
the current exhibition, which marks the 200th anniversary of the
publication of the Grimms’ “Children’s and Household Tales” by displaying
illustrations of various Romantic fairy tales.
Petra Eichler and Susanne Kessler of Sounds of Silence took on the task of designing the exhibition. Thus, it is hardly surprising that visitors begin to imagine that they are in the midst of an all-encompassing scenery, more a walkable stage set than an ordinary exhibition.
The exhibition is appropriate for both adults and children, but be careful: Don’t get lost in the dark woods!
