bonds.Hackney by Earl of East London
When their scent-based candle brand grew quickly, Londoners Niko Dafkos and Paul Firmin knew they were ready to lay down roots to build and expand their business: bonds.Hackney by Earl of East London was born. Now based out of a former carpentry workshop in Hackney, the building that homes the concept store is home to both the Earl of East Studio as well as KANA London, a studio producing beautiful ceramic wares. The shop acts as constellations of local products from a network of artisans, collaborators, and occasionally regular customers as well.
To best showcase the quality of bonds.Hackney’s stock, the team let the red bricks and aging wood floors shine with minimal outfitting: steel shelves, a plywood table, and plenty of live plants offer a rustic nod to the golden age of manufacturing and craftsmanship. The sprawling space is also flexible: quick modifications accommodate pop-up dinners, art lessons, or trade displays as needed.
