With the rise of globalization, the way we think of spaces and places is rapidly changing: We can travel between two spots on the globe faster than ever before, and ideas are commuting even faster to create a condensed reimagining of where we are. “Random City” by Letícia Lampert explores this contemporary collision, asking if there is space for individuality in the cityscapes that are quickly collapsing into a monolith. Montaging photographs from around the world, Lampert juxtaposes iconic idiosyncrasies with elements of the global vernacular, creating a sense of deliberate disorientation: Each collage could be from anywhere, but also invoke a specific place, space, or city.
